National Veterans Day Celebration Tickets on Sale Now; Charleston, SC Area Puts Out Hearty Welcome to Veterans, Families, Friends
Charleston, SC (PRWEB) September 12, 2007 -- In just two months, thousands of veterans, military families and others are expected to come together in this beloved city to celebrate freedom during the National Veterans Day Celebration. Spanning November 8 through the 11th, the celebration has one purpose in mind: to offer heartfelt thanks to the men and women who have served in active duty, and to show support for those who continue to do so. Every branch of the military -- Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard -- will be honored.
More than 20 events will occur over four days, allowing visitors to experience much of the Charleston area, and to share their memories and thanks with others. Events include a parade down Charleston's famous King Street; a Saturday afternoon family event on the waterfront of Charleston Harbor, one of the nation's most historic waterways; and a free concert on Sunday afternoon featuring political candidates, a performance by Grand Funk Railroad and fireworks.
Tickets are currently on sale for numerous events (others are free) including reunion dinners, the Saturday salute, a series of USO-style performances, a Freedom Walk over Charleston Harbor, and more. They may be purchased online at www.nationalveteransdaycelebration.org. (where a full schedule can be found) or by calling 843 559 0843. Here's a sampling:
- Commander's Cup, a golf scramble on November 8, will have players vying for their branch of the military. Play is $80 per person and includes cart fees and lunch; registration is available for teams and individuals.
- The USO-style Salute to Bob Hope marks the first time the legendary performer's estate has allowed the use of his imagery in a multi-media performance. Tickets are $20.
- The new Ravenel Bridge pedestrian lane will be a sea of red white and blue on Saturday, November 10 as walkers pay $3 to help benefit the American Red Cross Lowcountry Chapter and the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
- Camouflage is the theme of The Salute at Patriots Point, which will feature the Charlie Daniels Band and numerous family activities, fireworks and dozens of organizations who serve veterans and military families. Tickets are $5 per person.
Proceeds from the celebration will also benefit the Good Neighbor Center (which serves homeless veterans), Fisher House (comfort homes for loved ones of injured troops undergoing treatment in VA hospitals) and the Congressional Medal of Honor Museum Foundation.
Hotel packages are available, as are full directions, ticketing information, and more at www.nationalveteransdaycelebration.org.
